Sugar Creek Farm
We are North Carolina natives who have always loved being outside and who appreciate unadulterated nature, which led us to look into the health and environmental benefits of sustainable agriculture. Jeff educated himself through Central Carolina Community College’s Sustainable Agriculture Program and we developed a small garden to grow organic vegetables for ourselves. Each of us have kept our day jobs, but growing organic produce began to take up more and more of our time. In 2004, we made it official and started Sugar Creek Farm on 45 acres in Davie County, North Carolina. In 2005 we started selling at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds Farmers’ Market, which we still attend, and later added the Cobblestone Market (both in Winston-Salem).
There is a growing need in our area for local and organic food, so we now grow a large variety of vegetables to try to meet the demand! In 2008, we added some egg-laying chickens to the mix, and in 2009 we decided to raise heritage breed turkeys for Thanksgiving. We have been thrilled with the response of our customers, old and new, to the produce and poultry we provide and we are always thankful for their support.
We continue to try new vegetable varieties, and our growing season is now April through November. Before you know it, we’ll be growing all year round!
